Why does ICGH provide low cost, and for certain programs - free, Suboxone to its patients with pain pill or heroin addiction??
Suboxone is a blocker. It prevents withdrawal symptoms from opioids, such as pain pills and heroin. It also prevents the person taking Suboxone from feeling the euphoria of opioids if they do slip and use. People are not addicted to Suboxone. There is no craving for Suboxone. After being stabilized on Suboxone, most patients slowly titrate down off the drug. It can be for many a way to begin treatment.
Alot of misinformation about Suboxone out there... this medicine plus counseling and transitioning into AA and NA saves lives and allows people to move into long term, drug free recovery.
72,000 people died last year from a prescription pill overdose. This medication helps saves lives when used appropriately.
The medication when used properly and in the evidence based counseling program is proven effective to saves lives and move people suffering from opioid use disorder into long term recovery. It has no effect whatsoever on the Mu receptor site and has a ceiling effect as well. The Mu receptor site causes the euphoria of heroin and pill addiction.
There are other receptor sites effected when taken improperly. This is one of the reasons a licensed facility applies the model appropriately. Detox is one of the available resources we use, but due to the short stay on detox, loss of tolerance, and lack of new coping skills, people are at the highest risk of overdose death at discharge. Our clinicians have decades of lived recovery as well we clinical skills. We titrate people completely off the medication and have created a foundation for long term recovery. This country and our state have been ravaged by the current opioid crisis. Many people are struggling with addiction to heroin and pain pills, but have limited resources or do not know how to go about finding help. The Integrated Care of Greater Hickory (ICGH) Partners Behavioral Health Management (Partners) is proud to provide Medication Assisted Recovery Services (MARS) through have secured a new SAMHSA grant. In partnership with to partner with Partners Behavioral Health Management Integrated Care of Greater Hickory (ICGH) and McLeod Addictive Disease Centers (McLeod) to provide free doctor visits, buprenorphine, peer support, and counseling are provided in Gaston and Lincoln Counties for persons suffering heroin and pain pill addiction, but do not have insurance.
Addiction can be devastating to the person served and to those they love and who love them. Successful addiction treatment requires more than just “not using” and requires support and treatment that is now available freely to those who cannot help themselves. Services provided include meeting with counselors, appointments with doctors, use of medication to assist with the treatment of opioid use and other addictions and professionals dedicated to helping the person suffering from addiction address issues such as loss of employment, lack of housing. Counseling services allow the person suffering from addiction to develop new skills to support a lifestyle without using substances, medications such as buprenorphine prevent withdrawals and allow stabilization while developing those skills and other services are used to help begin to address the damage that a lifestyle of addiction causes to various life areas.
Successfully treating addiction includes recognizing the value of the person suffering from this disease, helping them to build a new, stable life through new drug-free coping skills, short-term needed medications, and long-term social support. We understand this is a medical condition where drugs have hijacked the brain; not a moral failing. ICGH and McLeod put MARS in action through a strong focus on assisting individuals to establish a solid foundation for recovery by using evidenced based models. At ICGH, an Office Based Opioid Treatment program (OBOT), uses the proven, evidence-based 12-Step Facilitation model for all addiction treatment for a seamless transition into lifelong recovery in the community after treatment ends. McLeod Addictive Disease Center, an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), provides treatment aimed at helping individuals maintain a drug free lifestyle through the use of evidence-based medication assisted treatment. Through Partners Behavioral Health Management, ICGH and our corporate partners at McLeod, ICGH is are making implementing strategies great strides with federal funding to end the opioid crisis in Gaston and Lincoln. and the surrounding counties.

What is naloxone?
Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or prescription opioid pain medications.
How is naloxone given?
There are three FDA-approved formulations of naloxone:
Injectable (professional training required)
Generic brands of injectable naloxone vials are offered by a variety of companies that are listed in the FDA Orange Book under "naloxone" (look for "injectable").
Note: There has been widespread use of improvised emergency kits that combine an injectable formulation of naloxone with an atomizer that can deliver naloxone intranasally. Use of this product requires the user to be trained on proper assembly and administration. These improvised intranasal devices may not deliver naloxone levels equivalent to FDA-approved products. In fact, the manufacturer of an internasal atomizer device issued a voluntary recall on 10/27/16 noting that some of the devices “may not deliver a fully atomized plume of medication, making the drug potentially less effective.” An approved, prefilled nasal spray is now available (see below).
Autoinjectable
EVZIO® is a prefilled auto-injection device that makes it easy for families or emergency personnel to inject naloxone quickly into the outer thigh. Once activated, the device provides verbal instruction to the user describing how to deliver the medication, similar to automated defibrillators.
Prepackaged Nasal Spray
NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a prefilled, needle-free device that requires no assembly and is sprayed into one nostril while patients lay on their back.
Note: Both NARCAN® Nasal Spray and EVZIO® are packaged in a carton containing two doses to allow for repeat dosing if needed. They are relatively easy to use and suitable for home use in emergency situations.
Who can give naloxone to someone who has overdosed?
The liquid for injection is commonly used by paramedics, emergency room doctors, and other specially trained first responders. To facilitate ease of use, NARCAN® Nasal Spray is now available, which allows for naloxone to be sprayed into the nose. While improvised atomizers have been used in the past to convert syringes for use as nasal spray, these may not deliver the appropriate dose. Depending on the state you live in, friends, family members, and others in the community may give the auto-injector and nasal spray formulation of naloxone to someone who has overdosed. Some states require a physician to prescribe naloxone; in other states, pharmacies may distribute naloxone in an outpatient setting without bringing in a prescription from a physician. What dose can be provided?
The dose varies depending on the formulation, and sometimes more than one dose is needed to help the person start breathing again. Anyone who may have to use naloxone should carefully read the package insert that comes with the product. You can find copies of the package insert for EVZIO® and NARCAN® Nasal Spray on the FDA website.
What precautions are needed when giving naloxone?
People who are given naloxone should be observed constantly until emergency care arrives and for at least 2 hours by medical personnel after the last dose of naloxone to make sure breathing does not slow or stop.
What are the side effects of naloxone?
Naloxone is an extremely safe medication that only has a noticeable effect in people with opioids in their systems. Naloxone can (but does not always) cause withdrawal symptoms which may be uncomfortable, but are not life-threatening; on the other hand, opioid overdose is extremely life-threatening. Withdrawal symptoms may include headache, changes in blood pressure, rapid heart rate, sweating, nausea, vomiting, and tremors.
We provide free Narcan to our participants and train each person how to use this product to save lives. We ourselves carry this medication, so we are ready to save a life in the community. The NC Good Samaritan Law protects those who administer this medication to help save a life.

ICGH enhanced services also utilizes at-the-window dosing to reduce the risk of diversion to the community and abuse. Free generic Suboxone medication is available for certain programs.
ICGH has an on-site LC/MS and EIA testing to provide rapid results of all drug and alcohol testing. ICGH “Sober Living” housing and transportation is available with specific programs. The company has met CMS Meaningful Use since 2012, and has maintained a CMS-certified EMR since that time as well. ICGH has been in network with Partners Behavioral Health Management since 2013. The last on-site audit from PBHM scored 100% (04/06/2017), and last performance review scored 94.00 (11/19/18). Recent scores pending.

Integrated Care of Greater Hickory and Project Lazarus are proud to announce that we have secured The Partnership for Success Youth Prevention Grant to cover Ashe, Alleghany, Wilkes, Alexander, and Catawba.
This federal grant covers youth prevention ages 9-20, primarily underage drinking, marijuana, and prescription drugs.
Integrated Care of Greater Hickory will hire an NCSAPPB certified substance abuse presentation consultant for Catawba County. The salary is very competitive. More to come as we begin our search for this new ICGH prevention expert to help meet the Drug and Alcohol Youth Prevention needs of Catawba County with a special focus on vulnerable populations, such as minority populations.

August 31, 2019 International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose.

James Estes, the Regional Representative for Senator Thom Tillis, met with Integrated Care of Greater Hickory staff and Partners staff to discuss ICGH's new federally funded program for Opioid Treatment in Lincoln and Gaston Counties that offers free care and free medication for the uninsured at either of ICGH's new Lincolnton and Gastonia sites. The group also discussed partnering with Senator Tillis for possible media releases to inform the public about treatment and prevention options in North Carolina, and to fight the stigma around drug addiction that prevents many from seeking treatment. Working together with lawmakers and our elected officials is how Integrated Care is making the communities of North Carolina better. (8/22/19)

Hickory, NC – Local advocate and educator Aaron Kohrs said he will run for Hickory City Schools Board of Education, Ward 6.
“Every child, regardless of which part of town he or she calls home, has the right to a safe, quality public education that best suits their individual needs. As your Ward 6 Board of Education member, I will be persistent in pushing for positive change: reviewing personnel and budgets with laser-focus, advocating innovation in our curriculum and supporting career-technical post-secondary paths like vocational programs or school-partnered work placements,” said Kohrs.
As a school board member, Kohrs understands his job is to guide the direction of the district. His top priority is “creating a school system with competitive programs that prepare learners to be productive, engaged citizens.”
“I know the story of schools today,” said Kohrs. “I have served multiple and diverse school districts as a classroom teacher, substitute teacher (at all nine HPS schools), tutor, book bus assistant, adult mentor, and volunteer. I have seen the challenges teachers and students face in modern public education, and I am passionate about listening to learn common sense solutions that help our community’s children.”
Kohrs is a community advocate and educator. He earned his BA of History from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with one year abroad in the United Kingdom, and then went on to University College Cork in Ireland for his MA in International Relations. While in Ireland, he completed a work placement with a PhD School of Education candidate. He serves on Hickory International Council and helps the board to organize educational seminars on global topics. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit Unique World Gifts and has organized cause-based events on their behalf. Kohrs supplemented his education as a fall 2018 fellow of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership and is part of the current cohort of the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Catawba 2019-2020. He works for Greenway Public Transportation as Mobility Manager.
Kohrs is native to Hickory, enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Local school board elections are November 5, 2019.

McMeans was the honored key note speaker and opened the forum with his meaningful message of hope as he shared his own recovery story. Dr. Richardson held an intensive workshop for VA mental health services providers on evidence based practice in the treatment of opioid use disorders. Laura Tugman, PhD, Assistant Chief of Mental Health Services at Charles George VA Medical Center has organized this conference for the last 7 years. An interesting side note, Drs. Richardson and Tugman are also childhood friends who grew up together in Boone, NC. All are already looking forward to next year's summit, and have several events and forums planned in the interim. 2019

Aaron Kohrs is a Hickory native, teacher, community organizer, and executive member of the Greenway Transportation Team. He has held forums to make Hickory's communities better, such as a recent forum that educated the public on factors that affect social mobility of our most vulnerable citizens, particularly the homeless. He has spoken regularly at Integrated Care of Greater Hickory helping many persons in our various programs understand how to better use the local transportation system as they pursue new jobs, go back to school, or just need to get to the grocery store or doctor's office. I got a call.
A friend in opioid crisis outreach had a mother in crisis. Her child had overdosed only hours before the call. The mother needed to talk to someone, anyone, about her loss. We did not have anything in the community for this mother. No state agency or non-profit organization had a program in place... and this person didn’t have insurance.
I called this grieving mother, and we spoke at length. After the call, I knew we needed to do something more. The initial shock of the loss. The long process of mourning and healing afterwards...
I reached out to Catawba Regional Hospice and Partners Behavioral Health Management. Patricia Bunch, LPC, LCAS, is a licensed professional counselor at Integrated Care of Greater Hickory specializing in adult and late adolescent care with particular focus in marriage and family issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Such an amazing honor and a privilege to announce that Ruth Trott, the current Client Services & Community Outreach director at Centro Latino Hickory, has agreed to come over to Integrated Care of Greater Hickory full-time as the new site coordinator for our Catawba County prevention position. She is a remarkable woman who has done so much for the Hispanic Community, and for Catawba County in general. She has served on and off on the Centro Latino Board of Directors, client services, after school program, interpretation and translation since 2006 and then 5 years as the non-profit’s director. While she will help ICGH work with other agencies to meet the prevention needs of Catawba County – especially the Hispanic and minority communities and our Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Community, she will also continue to be out front in the continued good work of Centro Latino. Ruth has for many years demonstrated a consistent track record of progress-driven client services & community outreach in Catawba County. She also has a long-standing record of initiative and innovation, developed and executed strategies which make the new Partnership for Success Youth Prevention grant secured by Integrated Care of Greater Hickory and Project Lazarus a success. We are honored to have her join on Integrated Care team.

Thanks to the agencies that make our community better every day: Greenway Transportation, Centro Latino Hickory, Project Lazarus, Hickory Fire Dept, ALFA, NC DHHS Vocational Rehab, NC Legal Aid, Partners Behavioral Health Mgmt, Catawba County Public Library, and our own ICGH TEAM. A local citizen named Barry read about our event and brought hundreds of sports memorabilia cards to give to all the kids for free!! Wow. Just wow. The 2019 ICGH SPOOKTACULAR had a nice steady crowd all day!! Which means.... next year will be even bigger and better!! The 2019 ICGH SPOOKTACULAR had some BIG EVENTS this year: Two Bouncy Houses and Slides, The Dunking Booth, The ESCAPE HOUSE OF HORRORS, and The Hickory Fire Dept FIRE TRUCK. The 2019 ICGH SPOOKTACULAR had amazing community volunteers and our own team. They really brought the entire event together!!! Our new 12 step Recovery programs and related transportation and medical services have been credentialed for excellence, our application has achieved the longest period of credentialing awarded: Three years.
This is for an initial application. We knew are the best in delivering all of these new services. But it is amazing for the GOLD STANDARD of human services program credentialing to agree with us. The CARF surveyors were amazing and have actually invited our own Douglas Blakeman, CSAC-R, COO, to join the international CARF credentialing organization as a surveyor. Upwards and onwards. Strategic Prevention Framework- Partnerships for Success Initiative
Background
In 2019, Project Lazarus received the Strategic Prevention Framework- Partnerships for Success (SPF- PFS) grant through the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This initiative is a five-year project aimed at preventing underaged drinking among 9-20-year old youth living in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Catawba, and Wilkes counties with the opportunity to target two additional substances. The five counties were chosen based on the impact that substance use has had on each community. The project is being carried out by three site coordinators in partnership with Integrated Care of Greater Hickory (Catawba) and Western Youth Network (Alleghany and Ashe) with Project Lazarus (Alexander and Wilkes) serving as the fiscal agent for the project.
Grant Objectives
The SPF-PFS grant has 6 primary goals:
1. Prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse in youth and young adults ages 9-20
2. Reduce alcohol abuse-related problems
3. Strengthen prevention capacity/infrastructure at the community level
4. Leverage other funding streams and resources for prevention
5. Implement a comprehensive prevention approach, including a mix of evidence-based programs, policies, and/or practices
6. Identify technical assistance and training needs and develop responsive activities

Hello, my name is Ruth Javier-Trott, I grew up as a military brat, and later married into the military. I was born overseas and moved frequently across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. I spent most of my High School playing as the Volleyball team’s setter; The setter is much like the quarterback in football or the point guard in basketball. I attended Northwest Florida State College in Pensacola, Fla, where I completed an associate degree in Medical Billing and Coding. I completed a bachelor’s degree of Science in Industrial Engineering and Technology Design at the Technological University of the Panama Canal.
I am presently a registered Bilingual Recovery Counselor and a Prevention Specialist with NCSAPPB, working under the supervision of Corey Richardson, DHSc, LCAS, CCS.
I am a mother of two young adults and a grandmother of two smart, well-mannered and loving boys.
I came to Catawba County nearly 20 years ago and I have worn many hats in the community as a humanitarian leader. While I was working at the Department of Social Services, I became aware of the changing and the ever-growing Hispanic population in the area, as well as the huge gap in communication.
Therefore, I joined the Centro Latino's Board of Directors around 2005, and in 2015 I became their Client Services & Community Outreach Director. I was the happiest when I was helping and linking members of the community to the wide variety of resources our agencies provide. I am also a board member of the Hickory Foundation YMCA. Since 2018, I have brought diversity and experience to the governance committee. Lastly, as the Hickory Woman’s Club board member, I am seeking to advance their international outreach within the community.
My motivation is “The Love for Humanity”. And, it gives me joy; I have found out that in helping others, I also help myself. So, I spend some time volunteering in the community, donating to charities, and assisting families in need.
The more often I give back, the more self-satisfaction l receive. I hope that someday I will be remembered as the one that helped my family to overcome challenges and obstacles, helped strangers pursue their passions and everything in between. And to always provide random acts of kindness to make us all feel good as well as the recipients of our good deed.

Who created WRAP?
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) was originally developed by Mary Ellen Copeland and a group of mental health service users who wanted to work on their own recovery – this is what they found worked for them and what helped them recover from their mental health difficulties.
Can you describe WRAP in more detail for me?
Developing your own WRAP will take time, it can be done alone, but many find it very valuable to have a supporter – they chose people they trust, and work on it together. Over time the WRAP can become a useful tool that you can use as a reminder and guide to maintain wellness and something you can turn to in times of difficulty. It is a practical tool to support you through your recovery. It is designed as a tool to learning about yourself, such as knowing what helps and what doesn’t, and how to gradually gain more control of your life and your experiences. It can also include a crisis plan, which is a way of guiding others on how best to make decisions for you and to take care of you, for those times when your problems and symptoms have made it very difficult for you to do this for yourself. Once you have started your own WRAP you can continue developing it and changing it as you gain more information about yourself.
Can't I just use someone else's WRAP plan?
WRAP is unique to each person. The WRAP belongs to you and You can decide how to use it & who to show it to. You decide who you would like to be involved or help you write it You decide whether you want someone to work with you You decide how much time to spend on it and when to do it. It is your guide to support your own wellness and recovery. This course facilitates this.

Integrated Care of Greater Hickory is proud of the work we have done working with Hispanic communities, (including offering free education on English as a second language and translation services), outreach with deaf and hard of hearing communities, our work with socioeconomically challenged persons to provide treatment that is free to our patients and our partnerships with other community agencies to provide services to those who often do not know where else to turn. Our providers have specific mandated training to improve awareness around cultural diversity, and the need for social justice and a society that is inclusive.
We are equally proud of our partnerships with local law enforcement as they work to maintain the safety of our communities through programs that refer those with substance use disorders to treatment, rather than the criminal justice system.
We all have a role to play in helping to heal our communities. We must address all forms of hatred, social injustice, and discrimination when we encounter it, either professionally or personally. Only if all persons come together can our society address and heal from these issues. Substance Use Disorders and mental health disorders are drivers of homelessness. ICGH works with Salvation Army, Exodus House, Hickory Soup Kitchen, CCM's Whole Life Center, and others to identify persons with substance use disorders and other behavioral problems to place them in our person centered programs to address the core issues surrounding homelessness, such as addiction, lower levels of education, mental health disorders, trauma, etc. ICGH has programs in Catawba, Gaston, and Lincoln Counties.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP®)
Wellness Recovery Action Plan®, or WRAP®, is a personalized wellness and recovery system that is rooted in the principle of self-determination. That means that it's about what individuals can do for themselves and how they can build and maintain support from others.
During a WRAP® workshop, you'll learn key recovery concepts that will guide you through the planning process. You'll create action plans to help you manage difficult situations in your daily life, including plans for getting support from others. You'll figure out how you know when you're well and when you're starting to become unwell so you can jump into action early to avoid crisis. But even if you do get to crisis, you'll have a plan for that too. You'll have already decided where you'll go, what treatment you'll pursue, and who in your support network will be with you. By the end, you'll find that having this plan can help you decrease distress, increase your sense of personal empowerment, and improve the quality of your life and your ability to reach your goals.

WRAP® is an evidence-based practice, meaning that its effectiveness has been scientifically proven. This summarizes the success of our program: Keeping men and women recently in jail and now in early recovery from from going back to jail, helping them stay in treatment which we fund through a federal grant, and allowing them thru AA/NA, counseling, transportation to appointments, peer support, and medication to maintain abstinence and start a new way of life.

During the crisis, many of our services have been provided through telehealth, but some of our patients did not have the resources, like smart phones with internet. This is why ICGH secured free phones for our patients who are in great financial need.

A statement from the CEO and Executive Staff on recent events...
Recent events have highlighted the continued issues our society faces with social injustice, including racism and many other social challenges. These are issues that Integrated Care of Greater Hickory has a long history of addressing through our numerous programs and services, but we recognize that our society still has a long way to go.
Integrated Care of Greater Hickory is proud of our diverse staff and the work we have done in our communities to reach out to marginalized and underserved individuals and groups of all races and creeds, able-bodied and disabled, sexual orientation and gender-expression. Integrated Care of Greater Hickory is proud of the work we have done working with Hispanic communities, (including offering free education on English as a second language and translation services), outreach with deaf and hard of hearing communities, our work with socioeconomically challenged persons to provide treatment that is free to our patients and our partnerships with other community agencies to provide services to those who often do not know where else to turn. Our providers have specific mandated training to improve awareness around cultural diversity, and the need for social justice and a society that is inclusive.
We are equally proud of our partnerships with local law enforcement as they work to maintain the safety of our communities through programs that refer those with substance use disorders to treatment, rather than the criminal justice system.
We all have a role to play in helping to heal our communities. We must address all forms of hatred, social injustice, and discrimination when we encounter it, either professionally or personally. Only if all persons come together can our society address and heal from these issues. We at Integrated Care of Greater Hickory will continue to dedicate ourselves to creating and providing programs to help build the safe, inclusive, and healthy communities we all deserve. An amazing day for the Day One Recovery Homes team. WE PURCHASED OUR FIRST APARTMENT COMPLEX.
This new program in Hickory NC will provide permanent shared living for those in long term recovery from substance use disorders and other behavioral health problems. Who is teaching this course?
Certified WRAP facilitators, who are also certified peer support specialists, NCASPPB certified drug and alcohol counselors, and who also in sustained recovery themselves.
Who created WRAP?
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) was originally developed by Mary Ellen Copeland and a group of mental health service users who wanted to work on their own recovery – this is what they found worked for them and what helped them recover from their mental health difficulties.
Can you describe WRAP in more detail for me?
Developing your own WRAP will take time, it can be done alone, but many find it very valuable to have a supporter – they chose people they trust, and work on it together. Over time the WRAP can become a useful tool that you can use as a reminder and guide to maintain wellness and something you can turn to in times of difficulty. It is a practical tool to support you through your recovery. It is designed as a tool to learning about yourself, such as knowing what helps and what doesn’t, and how to gradually gain more control of your life and your experiences. It can also include a crisis plan, which is a way of guiding others on how best to make decisions for you and to take care of you, for those times when your problems and symptoms have made it very difficult for you to do this for yourself. Once you have started your own WRAP you can continue developing it and changing it as you gain more information about yourself.
Can't I just use someone else's WRAP plan?
WRAP is unique to each person. The WRAP belongs to you and You can decide how to use it & who to show it to. You decide who you would like to be involved or help you write it You decide whether you want someone to work with you You decide how much time to spend on it and when to do it. It is your guide to support your own wellness and recovery. This course facilitates this.

Integrated Care of Greater Hickory, Inc. and Project Lazarus partner to offer Strategic Prevention Framework- Partnerships for Success Initiative for Catawba County, NC
Background
In 2019, Project Lazarus received the Strategic Prevention Framework- Partnerships for Success (SPF- PFS) grant through the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This initiative is a five-year project aimed at preventing underaged drinking among 9-20-year old youth living in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Catawba, and Wilkes counties with the opportunity to target two additional substances. The five counties were chosen based on the impact that substance use has had on each community. The project is being carried out by three site coordinators in partnership with Integrated Care of Greater Hickory (Catawba) and Western Youth Network (Alleghany and Ashe) with Project Lazarus (Alexander and Wilkes) serving as the fiscal agent for the project.
Grant Objectives
The SPF-PFS grant has 6 primary goals:
1. Prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse in youth and young adults ages 9-20
2. Reduce alcohol abuse-related problems
3. Strengthen prevention capacity/infrastructure at the community level
4. Leverage other funding streams and resources for prevention
5. Implement a comprehensive prevention approach, including a mix of evidence-based programs, policies, and/or practices
6. Identify technical assistance and training needs and develop responsive activities

Western Piedmont Council of Government in partnership with Integrated Care of Greater Hickory, Inc. has created a new permanent housing program for persons with substance use disorders. A criminal conviction does not bar a person from participation. This new housing program is a shared-living recovery home for persons in documented stable and ongoing treatment. These beautiful new townhouses offer each resident their own private room with all amenities. Only three persons per townhouse.
ICGH has locations in Statesville, Hickory, Gastonia, and Lincolnton. Federal funds available for opioid treatment in Gaston and Lincoln Counties. Limited state funds available for opioid treatment at Catawba and Iredell Counties. Treatment includes Recovery Medication, such as Suboxone®.
Transitional housing is available in Lincoln County. Funding is available for those recently arrested in Lincoln County to prevent recidivism.

Exciting news! Our new detoxification facility in Goldsboro, North Carolina has officially been visited by a number of government officials, including Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce, Goldsboro Police Department Captain Jason Adams, United Way Director Sherry Archibald, Goldsboro City Manager's Office Assistant City Manager Octavius Murphy, Wayne County Sheriff's Office Jail Navigator Machelle Bass and our very own ICGH Medical Director Dr. Ramesh Krishnaraj and Goldsboro Facility Operations Officer Jerry Hannah. We're thrilled to have had the chance to show them the site where our new 16-bed medical detox will be located, though it has not yet been up fitted. This new detoxification facility is an expansion of the top-quality care that communities across NC have come to know and trust from ICGH Treatment Centers. We're grateful to our contractors, Jackson Builders, for their hard work in bringing this project to fruition.
